Well, it's been a year....two years ago!

So, I wrote the post below and then didn't post it. I forgot or meant to have Joe proof read it and then forgot to ask him. A whole 1.5 years went by and I haven't been back here. I blame school, family, moving and a bunch of other stuff on it. So, I'm going to post this right now without updating anything and then come back and fill in the last two years :)

I cannot believe it has been almost a year since I last posted here! I just can't believe it! I guess taking care of the house and the kids full time prevents me from doing things like write blogs.  On top of it all I also started taking classes towards getting a nursing degree. So far so good. I've taken two classes and earned two A's. Because I started school, we decided to sign Simon up for Song Garden a whole year earlier than Aria! We were so nervous, but Simon loves school. He has been going 2 days a week and will start going 5 days a week in the fall. I hope his love for school will continue! I feel like such a terrible mom for non writing about his first day here. I do however, have a cute school picture of Simon:

Speaking of Simon, he is growing so fast! He is a big boy. Weighing in at just around 30 lbs. He loves loves loves music. He could listen to music all day long. He loves musicals and pop the most. His favorite artist for a long time was Shakira, and he still likes her, but he is now branching out. He also loves the music to the movie frozen. He knows all the words to all the songs, and god forbid, you chime in or try to interrupt him! In other departments, he has been now potty trained for a while. I still put a diaper on him at night, but I have to do it after he falls asleep. He likes our kitty cats OK, but prefers to just leave them alone. He likes dogs unless they lick him, that makes him mad! He is a super fast runner and can run quite a long distance. He will run all the way from our house to the park! He is a super social guy. If there are kids all playing together he wants to join them. Much to Aria's dismay, he always wants to be part of what his sister is doing. He adores her and she is the only one who can console him if he is upset and I'm not around. They are a good pair those two and love each other even though Aria seems to be annoyed by Simon from time to time.
Aria is doing great! She continued to take gymnastics and trapeze at Echo Theater until summer started. She also has been taking ballet and jazz dance and has really enjoyed that. She has said that she doesn't want to do gymnastics anymore, so we might look for other activities for her. She will continue with dance. She also has been taking art classes once a week and she is quite the artist. Some of her art was even on display at the Art Institute in North Portland. She will be taking an art summer camp in a few weeks. She has about 5 wiggly teeth and is impatiently waiting for them to fall out. The tooth fairy is going to have to pay out big when that happens. We have also entered the age of eye rolling and door slamming with Aria. Although annoying, this phase is kind of amusing and it is kind of cute to see Aria trying to assert herself and establish her role (as big sister - the mature one) in the household. I guess she doesn't want to be outdone by her brother's terrible two's :) It is always fun here!
We have already taken our big summer vacation trip. As soon as school got out we went to Chicago to visit Shelley and Todd and on from there to Indiana to see Aunt Mary and Uncle Doug. We took Mira along. It was a fun trip, although exhausting! Traveling with small kids is never fun. I have to say though, the kids did great and Simon was so excited for his first flight! We did drive a lot and so ended up playing on the IPad a ton.  I guess summer vacations are so that your kids brains can get a bit mushy.
I promise to return here soon again. I'll write after our annual Eichenauer family trip, to Sun River this time. We are all healthy and lucky to be living in such a great place surrounded by family and friends!
